Starbux

Someone sniffs cellophaned sandwiches,

a woman in sparkly pumps reads the ‘daily offerings’ board

then turns away; her eyes flick over cakes and pastries,

bars of rocky road. The jazz plays on

and customers come, pushing through the bright day,

all its steady radiance.

They leave with coins and quiet thanks -

cradling cups of steamed milk, syrups, small faiths.
